The ‘Projonmo Chattar’ sculpture in Shahbagh, Dhaka, was demolished late on Saturday night (12 July).
During a visit to the site around noon today (13 July), it was observed that the installation had been partially dismantled, with one side reduced to rubble.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khalid Mansur said, “The sculpture falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. As it is within their authority, they carried out the demolition last night.
“I was informed in advance to ensure that no public gathering or unrest could take place. However, there was no resistance, and no crowd formed,” he said.
The OC further noted that, according to information provided by the ministry, a new installation commemorating last year’s July Uprising is expected to be constructed at the site.
