Sensual Abstract at the Hyde Gallery in London with Karina Dilan Savina

The Hyde Gallery presents Sensual Abstract, a group exhibition exploring the language of abstraction through perception, materiality and inner experience with the curator Lyudmila Hyde. The exhibition opened not long ago and can be seen until May 26^th, 2026. One new way to see the world in a busy city like London with one more attentive way of seeing, where form, texture and movement unfold through feeling. In fact, the gallery supports artists who expand the boundaries of perception and engage with painting as a living, evolving medium. Furthermore, Sensual Abstract continues this vision with a reflection on slowness.

Among the participants, there is a talented abstract artist who uses vibrant paintings to explore the idea of life as a continuous process. She is Karina (Dilan) Savina and presents in this exhibtion part of the series Living Worlds — The Gardens of London Within Us. In her vision, the inner world and nature manifest themselves through movement, cyclicality, awakening and transformation.

This artist was born in 1992, lives in Belgrade and trained at the prestigious Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. She explores the use of color and paints to mark continuous transformation. Each of her paintings bears the mark of a transformation: internal and cyclical, tied to nature.

As she said: «This series is inspired by the gardens of London as reflections of inner landscapes -spaces where human perception and living nature exist in a state of unity». Her artworks, indeed, explore life as a continuous process unfolding simultaneously within the inner world and in nature: movement, cyclicality, awakening, and transformation. She often uses acrylic and textured paste, combined with sand because she sees the organic signs of transformation.

Working through abstraction, she develops a visual language grounded in sensory experience and the interconnection between human presence and the natural world. Her paintings do not depict landscapes in a literal sense; rather, they function as inner environments where nature reveals itself as a dynamic, responsive field. The exhibition brings together works that explore different visions of time and the world, using a variety of painting techniques; it is also a response to the speed of a city like London. Karina, for example, uses paint materially as if a “chromatic pictorial bas-relief”. And so she manages to embroider a painting that feels like soft fabric.

For her, life is a constant transformation, just like the flow of her painting, which recalls Heraclitus’ panta rei. In conclusion, Sensual Abstract is a collective exhibition that aims to make a difference, asking the public questions about the present and our existence at different rhythms, remembering that we are not machines or digital devices, but rather human beings, in a society that is notoriously fast-paced.

Through art she feels the need to get closer to nature, deciding to create an artistic residence on Etna as a “refuge for contemporary art” for artists and scholars. Thus was born Nake artistic residence. She won the Responsible Etna Award 2015. In 2017, she was invited to the Sala Zuccari, Senate of the Republic, as an art critic. She writes for Italian and foreign artists. Curator of the first Museum of Contemporary Art of Etna and of the “Contemporary Etna” project.
