LOCAL ARTIST SHORTLISTED FOR BRITISH ART PRIZE
Fleet artist Andrew Newton has been named among the finalists for the British Art Prize 2025, one of 50 shortlisted from a field of nearly 3,000 submissions nationwide. His work will be shown in London later this month, when the prize exhibition opens from 26th – 30th November.
Andrew gained a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2008 and has since exhibited across the UK and internationally. His work spans portraiture, abstraction and a distinctive blend of abstracted realism, expressionism and deconstructionism. His achievements include winning the First Prize ROI Award at the Mall Galleries.
Alongside creating his own work, Andrew has taught technical art skills privately since 2013 and also works with students through the Arthouse Meath charity in Godalming, Surrey.

The British Art Prize is recognised as one of the UK’s major open art competitions, offering national visibility and more than £10,000 in awards, as well as opportunities for further exhibitions and magazine features. The final selection brings together a wide range of contemporary work from artists at different stages of their careers.
In addition to the British Art Prize shortlist, Andrew currently has three smaller works on display in the ING Discerning Eye Exhibition at the Mall Galleries. The show runs until 23rd November and features more than 730 artworks chosen from 6,500 entries, known for its focus on small-format pieces across a broad mix of styles.
