Indie legends announce new album with artwork featuring an iconic Glasgow landmark

Bloc Party have unveiled their new album ‘Anatomy of A Brief Romance’, with cover art that appears to feature one of Glasgow’s most recognisable walkways.

The band announced on Instagram that the record will be released on September 11 and described it as “a record unlike anything we’ve ever done before”, adding that it is “full of bodies, from the gym to the dancefloor, to the bedroom.”

The album will be available on standard and limited-edition vinyl, CD and digital formats, with pre-orders now live via the band’s official store.

The artwork shows a silhouetted figure walking through a curved, red-and-cream tunnel that closely resembles Glasgow “Smartie Tube”, the distinctive covered walkway linking Finnieston and Exhibition Centre station with the SEC and OVO Hydro campus beside the Clyde.

Bloc Party, formed in London in 1999 by frontman Kele Okereke and guitarist Russell Lissack, became one of the defining indie bands of the 2000s with acclaimed debut album Silent Alarm, followed by A Weekend in the City, Intimacy and, more recently, 2022’s Alpha Games.

Their angular guitars, dance-punk rhythms and emotionally charged lyrics have influenced a generation of indie acts.

The group have continued to tour and release new music in recent years, including a co-headline UK and European arena run with Interpol, and fans in Glasgow will be greeted with a show this year on December 2.
