(BATESVILLE, Ind.) – A Batesville High School student hopes her artwork can inspire others to overcome difficult situations and emotions.
Freshman Ella Meer was selected for the final round of this year’s Art on Main project and her mural is now on display at the corner of Main and George streets.
The project is organized by the Batesville Community Education Foundation (BCEF) which highlights student art from all four Batesville schools on a rotating basis throughout the year.
The art theme this year was ‘Weathering Emotions’ and it was a subject that inspired Meer’s creativity.
She chose to depict a person walking calmly through a stormy scene.
“As a student, it often feels as though a million emotions are attacking you all at once, leading to a loss of control. To ‘weather’ these emotions, I focus on finding something that calms me,” Meer said.
Meer said she was inspired by the popular phrase of ‘My calm in the storm.’
“I wanted to show that while battling emotions can be difficult, it is possible to find your calm, endure the emotions, and continue forward with life,” she added.
BCEF’s Art on Main project is made possible by Rowland Graphics who donates their time to install the murals as well as Nick Maple who owns the building.
Ella’s mural will be on display until the fal when a new art series will begin for next school year.
