Rebecca Stevenson: The Triumph Of Love @ James Freeman Gallery
Following on from her residency at V&A, during the museum’s Donatello exhibition, this selection of works in different mediums is a sublime tribute to the works of art history’s greats. Two giant heads made in Bronze have been recreated by Stevenson in wax, normally a material that gets lost in the sculpting process, but here with a sense of permanence and fragility. Alongside works made in bronze, glass and her trademark wax this is a sculpting masterclass. Until 8th March.
Carol Prusa: Strange Attractions @ Bluerider Art
There’s phenomenal delicate detail in each of these silverpoint works and in the centre of the gallery is a nine-metre-long work that feels like a hybrid of a jellyfish and a mushroom. The artist has a scientific background and we can see that in the organic shapes that materialise from these mesmerising works – though what you see in them may tell you more about yourself. Until 10th March.
Emily Weiner: Elastic Concept @ Huxley-Parlour, Swallow Street
There’s something wonderfully dreamy about these hazy works, a few with an eye looking back out at us made me think of the Illuminati. I also like her wavy frames and one work on shaped MDF that undulates itself – it’s my first time seeing the artist’s work and it’s a welcome dose of surrealism. Until 1st March.
Jake Wood-Evans: Nocturne @ Unit London
I first came across Jake’s work years ago and it’s got progressively looser over time. In this show I feel like he’s hit the sweet spot of paying an ode to art historical masterpieces and imbuing them with his own style as ghostly figures and flowers fade in and out of view. Until 2nd March.
Lynette Yiadom-Boakye: “Keep The Moon Amongst Ourselves” @ Corvi-Mora
I’ve always loved her imagined sitters and here they are dancing, relaxing and holding a cat in striking paintings. If you loved her Tate Britain show, like I did, then here’s a perfect follow up – a chance to get an additional fix of her stunning portraits. Until 1st March.
