The Hayward Gallery’s latest exhibition sees five thematic zones displaying South Korean artist Haegue Yang’s work across installation, sculpture, collage, video and other mediums. Haegue, who has split her time between Berlin and Seoul since the mid-1990s, is known for experimenting with various media and subject matter, from vast sensorial installations to works incorporating drying racks and Venetian blinds. Her most recent work continues to explore themes of labour, migration, and displacement, with the newly-commissioned Sonic Droplets in Graduation – Water Veil inviting observers to walk through a curtain of blue and silver stainless-steel bells which trigger sonic reverberations, signalling their arrival. Take a moment to absorb the references, from East Asian traditions to fascinating folklore.
