The mural alongside Urquhart Opticians practice in Puddock Lane captures the view of the Salt Pan Houses, with a further section behind the practice celebrating town’s golfing history.
A Prestwick opticians is celebrating the town’s rich heritage with a stunning mural sprayed on its exterior walls – giving passers-by an insight into local history.
The mural runs alongside Urquhart Opticians practice in Puddock Lane – an area that previously used to be a ditch filled with frogs and toads – and referred to by generations of Prestwick residents as the ‘Puddock Sheuch’.
Working in conjunction with Artisan Artworks, a local business based in Newmilns, the practice designed the mural as a landscape of the view of the Salt Pan Houses in Prestwick with frogs incorporated in the foreground.
A further section behind the practice celebrates the town’s golfing history, with Prestwick hosting the first ever Open Championship.
Peter Telfer, director at Urquharts Opticians, said: “This was a big undertaking for us, and it’s turned out amazingly well.
“We wanted to do something that was tied to the town itself and that would resonate with the community. We’re absolutely delighted with the end result.
“We’ve had people coming in off the street to tell us how much they love it and to find out more about the historical references that it depicts. It’s proved a real talking point.
“Prestwick has so much to be proud of and, as a practice with its roots embedded in our community, we wanted to do something that celebrates that rich heritage and sense of identity.
“It’s the first time we’ve done something like this and is certainly something we’d look to replicate at other practices across the group if the space allows.
“The Artisan Artworks team were brilliant to work with, and we really enjoyed seeing it all come together.”
