The Serpara Sculpture Garden Reopens for 2025

La Serpara is ready to reopen its doors for the 2025 event season. On Saturday, May 3rd, the sculpture garden of Paul Wiedmer in Civitella d’Agliano inaugurates the event calendar with a day dedicated to artist Cristiano Carotti. Within the Serpara Pavilion, an exhibition will be set up that anticipates the site-specific project Carotti will later create for the garden. The exhibition will present preparatory studies, sketches, and works that reflect the dialogue between nature and artifice, central themes in the artist’s poetics. Born in Terni in 1981, Carotti currently lives in Rome. Artistically, he works with painting, sculpture, and installation, focusing on the influence of symbols in social dynamics. In his most recent research, he has explored the conflict between Homo Naturalis and Mechanicus. This new body of work began with ‘Cella’, the installation presented in the Baptistery of Pietrasanta. This new cycle celebrates the reclaiming of spaces taken over by nature: natural geometries, beehives, and nests freely grow on abandoned artifacts. To complete the day’s program, at 5 PM there will be a talk conducted by journalist Sonja Riva, with contributions from art historian Simone Zacchini, artist Cristiano Carotti, and Marco Trulli, art historian and president of the cultural association La Serpara. A moment of insight into the ongoing project that opens new reflections on the role of art in the natural context of La Serpara. The appointment is for May 3rd starting at 3:30 PM with the opening of the garden, while from 4 PM it will be possible to visit the exhibition. The sculpture garden of Paul Wiedmer La Serpara was founded in 1997 in the Rio Chiaro valley between Umbria and Lazio where Wiedmer himself has lived and worked for forty years, making it a place of artistic meeting and research. Since ’97, the sculptor has invited artist friends to contribute site-specific works for the garden. Thousands of visitors come to this iconic place in the upper Viterbo area every year. Currently, at La Serpara, you can admire the permanent works of 40 artists from around the world. Access to the garden is free, but it is possible to support the association by becoming a member or with a free donation.
