Where do you stay in London?
I love The Beaumont — the Gormley room is next level. Also, the Paul Smith suite at Brown’s Hotel is pretty sensational.
Where was your first flat in London?
A one-bedroom in a Victorian conversion in Archway.
What was your first job in the city?
Work came alive for me when I started theatre and what felt like my first proper theatre job was Henry V at the National Theatre in 2003.

Where would you recommend for a first date?
One of the Tates — possibly Modern — and then walk along the South Bank. Sometimes when the river is low, you can go down onto the Thames beaches — those are incredible.
Which shops do you rely on?
Shop local if you can. For me, local coffee shops are very important, especially ones where they will give Rocky a piece of chicken with an oat flat white. Otherwise, I love
Stone Island on Brewer Street for clothes, Hatchards on Piccadilly for books, Atomic Antiques on Shoreditch High Street and SCP on Curtain Road for interiors. I use two art picture framers religiously — Frame London and Darbyshire.
I always have fantastic food at The Delaunay, it’s full of theatre folk. My tribe and I love 45 Jermyn Street — in my opinion it’s perfectly not too fancy but just fancy enough. Friends, family and dates, works for them all!
What would you do if you were Mayor for the day?
I’d package up daily cultural experiences — encourage people to get out and grab good coffee at an independent, then eat somewhere brilliant, followed by an art exhibition, on to a poetry performance, then off to the theatre or to see an indy movie in a great art-house cinema. We truly have it all here.
Where do you go to have fun?
Work is more fun than fun but … Soho in the summer, tumbling out onto the streets with a pint in your hand — truly wonderful!

Who do you call when you want to have fun?
Mates. My parents are also always up for a big one.
What’s your biggest extravagance?
Art — I’m an obsessive collector and it’s a passion that takes up a lot of my headspace and pay cheques.
What’s your London secret?
On Charing Cross Road, at the junction of Old Compton Street, look down through the grill in the middle of the road and you’ll see the long lost road of “Little Compton Street” below.

This Cultural Life, The Rest is Politics and, of course, my own obsession — Talk Art.
Favourite work of art in London?
I love Rebecca Warren’s huge public bronze sculpture with the little pink bow on top — “William, 2010” on St Giles High Street. And the London Eye — it’s a masterpiece of modern design, offering a constantly changing canvas of the city’s skyline.
What’s your favourite beauty spot?
I used to be obsessed with Face Gym in Coal Drops Yard.

What are you up to at the moment for work?
Currently doing promo for my new show, Suspect: The Shooting of Jean Charles de Menezes for Disney+.
Who is the most iconic Londoner?
Derek Jarman — he inspires me by how much tenacity he had and how capable and able he was to stake claims in so many cultural spaces.
