Jewish Culture Month will take place across the UK from Saturday 16 May to Tuesday 16 June with hundreds of events across the UK
Six museums and art galleries in Manchester and Bury are to participate in the UK’s inaugural Jewish Culture Month. The first-of-a-kind celebration is aimed at people of all faiths and backgrounds.
Jewish Culture Month will take place across the UK from Saturday 16 May to Tuesday 16 June and focus on a range of themes including British Jewish contributions to music, literature, food, history, fashion, architecture and comedy. The month will feature more than 100 individual events.
Here in Greater Manchester, events will take place at Manchester Museum, The Whitworth, Manchester Jewish Museum, HOME Manchester, and The Met, Bury. There will also be two guided walking tours of Jewish Manchester. Manchester City Galleries will also join the city wide celebrations by marking the initiative across social media.

Manchester Jewish Museum interim chief executive, Sue Shave, said: “Manchester Jewish Museum is proud to be taking part in Jewish Culture Month, to showcase the contribution of the Jewish community in Manchester’s achievements.
“We will be hosting exciting events and exhibitions which celebrate Mancunian Jewish heritage and culture. Jewish Culture Month is a great way of bringing our communities together to celebrate and share the joy of being Jewish and the contribution made by Jewish people to the very fabric of our society.”
Exhibitions and events include a textiles workshop at The Whitworth, exploring shapes and symbols in Jewish culture with participants using them as inspiration to create their own textile artworks. More details for each of the venues are to follow.
Jewish Culture Month is a project of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, the national representative body of the UK Jewish community.
