Iconic artworks including Mona Lisa, Girl with a Pearl Earring and Birth of Venus have been given a contemporary twist
Famous masterpieces have been transformed with a modern makeover to show how the subjects might look if painted in the present day. The Mona Lisa, Girl with a Pearl Earring and The Birth of Venus have been reimagined using artificial intelligence, incorporating some of the most popular beauty trends from the last three decades.
The project saw The Birth of Venus, created by Sandro Botticelli in the 1480s, given a quintessential 1990s transformation, featuring body glitter, nail art and the iconic miniature butterfly clips adorning her hair. Meanwhile, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa was catapulted into the early 2000s, sporting thin eyebrows, chunky highlights and frosted eyeshadow.
Finally, Girl with a Pearl Earring, painted by Johannes Vermeer in the 1660s, has been refreshed with today’s contemporary aesthetic showcasing bold eyebrows, dewy skin and nude-toned lips.
These timeless paintings of some of history’s most celebrated female muses were reimagined by Perfectil, which explored some of the beauty trends that have emerged and faded in the 30 years since the supplement launched.
It follows research which revealed smoky eye makeup, the ‘Rachel’ haircut and kohl eyeliner are amongst the most iconic beauty trends of that period, reports the Mirror.
A spokesperson from Vitabiotics Perfectil, said: “Some of the trends of the last few decades have been iconic, so we wanted to give some iconic paintings a truly iconic look.
“Had Vermeer, Leonardo da Vinci or any of these old masters been around today, these give some indication how their paintings may have looked differently.
“But we all know a lot of these trends are fleeting and many are no longer at the forefront of beauty – although they may well come back again in 30 years’ time.”
“While these trends come and go, one thing which truly has stood the test of time is the strong link between beauty and wellness from within to ensure a healthy lifestyle and a diet rich in key nutrients,” she adds.
When it comes to particular trends, red lipstick, winged eyeliner, contouring and false eyelashes were among the most memorable, alongside some timeless styles including nail art, a blunt bob and glittery eyeshadow. Crimped hair, glossy lips and even blue mascara also featured on the list.
The study found that 51% of the 2,000 women polled believe many 1990s and 2000s looks are making a comeback, with 12% hoping dramatic kohl liner, as worn by Traitors host Claudia Winkleman, might become trendy again.
Previously, 22% of respondents took their hair and beauty inspiration from television and films, with an equal proportion looking to friends. Yet, according to OnePoll.com research, 27% now look to social media for their beauty guidance.
Furthermore, an impressive 69% say their beauty regime is important, spending more than 20 minutes daily on it – that’s an average of two hours and 20 minutes per week. More than a quarter (26%) confessed to dedicating more time to their hair and beauty routines now than they did during their teenage years.
A spokesperson from Vitabiotics Perfectil said: “Beauty has always been a focus for many, even if the trends they try to replicate and include with their regime may be different now than when the Mona Lisa was first painted.
“The backbone of beauty is – and always has been – good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. The trends we follow will change as we grow and find what works for us externally, but the goodness we consistently put into our bodies will remain a constant.”
